I sat at my balcony watching the rain patter down.
And amidst the thunder clouds and a slow rainbow forming, I watched a little blade of grass giggling in the patter of the rain.
All of 3 odd inches, she stood tall against an engulfing world around her.
The humble blade of grass knows only a life of trust.
With no defence against the vagaries of an unkind world,
She remains, an easy prey for the ruminating cow;
Crushed and trampled under a scurrying foot;
Scorched by the fire of the blazing sun above;
Whipped into fear by the pelting storm.
Too little to give shade to the odd traveler;
No feet to run,
No place to take refuge,
She blooms where she’s planted;
Rooted to the ground--
broken, battered, perplexed, yet holding her little head high;
Tall in the knowledge that
she is secure
in the arms of her Maker...
I sometimes think we need to uncomplicate our lives and just live a life of trust.
Sure, the storms will rage, the tempest will roar, the gale will threaten to sweep the earth away;
But it takes infinitely greater strength to hold the soul high
And only trust.

this makes me think of the lines from a hymn - 'under the shadow of thy throne, still may we dwell secure...'
